About, oh, two days after I made up my mind to become a freelance writer and declared my intentions here on this blog and to a few friends, family members, and colleagues, an opportunity came my way. I’ve been working full-time as a proposal writer for the past three weeks, while my little one has been going—reluctantly, to put it mildly—to daycare. What with Christmas on the horizon, and further damage to Chelsea’s sleep habits (due to a double whammy of bronchitis–hers–and separation anxiety–hers and mine) this blog, not to mention my laundry/social life/reading pile, has fallen by the wayside of late.
But Chelsea is healthy again, and yesterday she grinned and waved at me when I dropped her off in the morning. It’s taking me some time to find my footing at the office, but everyone’s been patient and nice about it, and I like the work. I like getting dressed up in the morning, and finishing my coffee before it gets cold, and talking to other adults. I’m even getting a bit of reading done now—at lunch, on the bus—sometimes I even get a few pages in at night before I pass out of exhaustion.
Of course, there are still a few kinks in the system that need to be resolved. The house is even messier than it was when I was home all day with the baby. Reliance on convenience and restaurant food is at an all-time high. Under-eye circles have reached a new level of darkness. But today is my last day before a full week off, and tomorrow is Christmas Eve. A few new books—among many other fun things—are under the tree for the little one. I hope there will be books under there for me, too, but I’m not sure whether Santa has had a chance to look at my Amazon browsing history yet.
All this by way of saying…all is well, but thanks for your concern, Kerry! I will return to something resembling a regular blogging schedule in 2012. Dear readers (I say, arrogantly assuming there is at least one person who hasn’t given this blog up for dead)…I hope your holidays are merry and bright. See you in the new year!
I was getting ready to annoy you into posting, but here we are! Glad to see you are determined to keep up the blog. Merry Christmas!
All posts appreciated, whenever you have time. Glad things are fun-ish at work!! Happy hols!
